Welcome to the Year Of the Snake

Welcome to the Year Of the Snake

On January 29, we celebrated the New Moon and the lunar New Year for many countries in Asia. In China, this lunar New Year ushered in the Year Of the Wood Snake, bringing with it a new set of blessings and challenges.

The Year Of the Snake means that we will be feeling into some grounded, practical, and cautious energies. One of the most remarkable shamanic journeys I've ever done was to shapeshift into Snake energy, and I still remember the sensation of having my whole belly on the ground, and being able to feel every vibration around me, as well as the feeling of being grounded.

Snake energy is also about shedding that which no longer serves you, releasing old patterns and thoughts and beliefs that are hindering you or causing pain, and of course, the growth that comes with that. When Snake sheds their old skin, they become vulnerable - both before the shed, when their eye scales may cloud their ability to see, and after, when they have exposed fresh, new skin that may be prone to injury.

So if you're feeling a little more cautious than usual this year, take heart - it's just the energy of Snake, asking you to slow things down a bit, be more mindful, and feel into what's happening around you.

If you want to work with Snake energy and get understand more about it and what it might mean for you this year, do a shamanic journey and ask Snake to meet you. Then ask if you can shapeshift into them so you can get a better idea of how it feels to work with Snake energy.
