Tarot Of the Week for March 31, 2025
Share
It’s the last day of March, and we’re now officially full-on into Aries season and all that chaotic energy! I remember my first shamanic studies teacher telling us that the beginning of any new cycle is always full of chaos, comparing it to the birth of a baby. Lots of love and great things happening, but also a whole lot of very intense energy. And this week’s Tarot reading gives us some insight into what’s happening.
This week, I switched up my deck to use the Animal Totem Tarot. It’s been one of my favorite decks for almost a decade, so I picked it up and dusted it off for this week’s reading. Fun story about this deck and how I acquired it: a friend and fellow yoga student bought the deck, thinking that it was something else that she had been looking for, and when she realized it was a Tarot deck, she thought I might like to have it. And funny enough, I could feel the energy of this deck right out of the box, It was just a wonderful natural fit for me from the very first card I pulled!
After a good shuffle, the cards that came out to play with us this week are:
2 of Wands
The Emperor (reversed)
Wheel of Fortune (reversed)
So let’s get to it…
2 of Wands This is the card of watching. Waiting. Being patient. It’s like the energy of waiting in line at the grocery store when there are seven or eight people in front of you. What do you learn about yourself in times like this? Do you get angry at the minor injustice of having to wait in line? Are you annoyed with everyone in front of you, and with all the other impatient people behind you? Are you just ready to zip through the process and move on to the next thing? Or can you find a few seconds of peace in the grocery store line? Are you able to take a few deep breaths here, maybe even close your eyes for a few seconds? Do you use this opportunity to practice sending out loving kindness to everyone? So, yes, here we are, in this place, and we have an opportunity to do all of the above while we’re waiting, in limbo, for whatever comes next.
The Emperor (reversed) As a major arcana card, The Emperor is all about the vast responsibilities we take on. It’s a greater responsibility than just paying bills and maintaining a living space and showing up for a job – it’s our greater responsibility to all beings, human and non-human, and how we care for each other. Because like it or not, we are all connected, and every being matters, human and non-human. Last week in Tarot class, I was talking about the great bright web of life of which we are all a part – and the Emperor reminds us of that connection. However, when this card is reversed, it can feel like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders. And honestly, right now, everyone I know is feeling that heaviness. Sometimes that heaviness manifests in the form of feeling helpless. Asking yourself the question, But what can I do in the face of such rampant evil and injustice? The answer, of course, is to continue to focus on your own small little corner of the universe. Creating real community outside the constraints of capitalism, and encourage others to do the same.
Wheel of Fortune (reversed) Yikes. Like we didn’t have enough to deal with right now with that Emperor reversed, we also have the Wheel of Fortune reversed. But remember, for things to go up, they have to go down. Of course this is a challenging card and some very challenging times we find ourselves in, but this card is also a reminder that things will eventually be on the upswing again, and maybe sooner than we think. My first shamanic teacher also liked to remind us that challenging times are opportunities for growth. (I mean, sure, I’d like a few less opportunities lately, but whatever, we got what we got.) So just like the very patient stingray in the first card of this reading, this is our opportunity for growth. Where are we being challenged in these times, and what opportunities are waiting for us?
So, yes, there we have it. A challenging week ahead of us as we roll on into Aries season, but oh so many places where we can find growth! As always, remember to practice slowing down your breath, feel all the feels, and ground ground ground. Reach out to your neighbors and friends and find a way to spend time together building community that doesn’t require you to spend money or participate in capitalism. We’ve got this!
