Tarot Of the Week for March 17, 2025

Tarot Of the Week for March 17, 2025

Happy Monday, friends! We’ve made it to mid-March and hoo boy what a ride it’s been, eh? While I only know just enough astrology to be dangerous, I’m hearing from my friends who know better (and feeling into the energy itself) that the next couple of months are going to be wild. Right now, Mercury is in retrograde until April 7, 2025, and Venus is also in retrograde until April 12, 2025, setting us up for a whooooole lot of reflection.

This week’s Tarot reading also offers us some challenges where we might find opportunities for growth, so let’s take a look at what cards came up for us this week. We’ve got:

King of Swords (reversed)

Five of Pentacles

Six of Swords

Let’s get to it.

King of Swords (reversed) Welp. When this card is upright, it speaks to the energy of being able to communicate difficult things from a heart-centered place. It’s that energy of the person who is able to deliver difficult news in a calm, level-headed manner. But because this card is reversed, what we’re feeling into here is possibly some self-talk, or some kind of communication with self that is about finally understanding or integrating a harsh truth. It could also be that there are some difficult things that you are currently trying to avoid – they keep popping up in the periphery of your consciousness, but you’re just pushing them down and pushing them away because you don’t want to face them. Maybe you feel as though you can’t face them right now or just yet, but here’s the thing: they’re true whether or not you’re ready for them. So maybe take this time during the double whammy retrograde to do some soul searching and create a space for yourself where you can hear and accept these things, even if they are delivered in a harsher manner than you would like.

Five of Pentacles Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand here’s another card that presents a challenge for us: the challenge of asking for help. The challenge of feeling supported in community. Where is your community? Chances are, if you live under the oppressive rule of capitalism (like 99% of us do in this country), you don’t really have a community. You may have a community that’s the best we can do under this hellscape of an economic sociopolitical regime, but a TRUE community is something that takes a lot of work outside of the chains of capitalism. In a true community, we recognize that we are all connected and we all need to take responsibility for each other as well as for ourselves. Look at it this way: you can’t take responsibility for yourself if you don’t take responsibility for others. That’s what this 5 of Pentacles is asking of us – things might feel pretty freaking bleak right now. But this is also an opportunity for us to step outside the crush of capitalism and get to know who our neighbors are, and to form a true community of allies that will help us get through the dark times ahead.

Six of Swords In the Tarot, the suit of swords represents air energy, and the heart chakra. The heart chakra is where we house the energy of love – not romantic love, but the Universal Love that is present in all beings. (Even though it’s easier to see/sense in some beings than in others, let me tell ya.) But the 6 of Swords is all about the energy of moving on, similar to the energy of a divorce. A severing of ties. A cutting of cords. During this double Mercury/Venus retrograde, are you feeling a need to cut a few cords yourself? Is there something you’re holding on to desperately that just isn’t working for you anymore? Sometimes severing those connections can be really difficult. Emotional. Things that you put together so carefully are coming apart, and it’s never gonna be easy. However, the long-term benefits outweigh the temporary emotional upset and distress. So do some journaling or some meditation or reflection on what isn’t working, why it’s not working, and determine if you need to cut the cords and let things go.

So looking at all three of these things together, the energy this week is looking supportive for things like reaching out to form or find your community, giving yourself grace and space to hear the hard things, and then being honest with yourself about what’s not working and cutting cords where necessary. Give yourself the space and freedom and grace to shed as we move towards the spring equinox later this week! It’s time for a breath of fresh air.
