Tarot Of the Week for April 14, 2025

So how’s that full moon hangover coming along, eh? I don’t know about anyone else, but this full moon was a doozy for me. Not only did I come down with some kind of upper respiratory bug thing (that has apparently been making the rounds at my son’s school), but I was just in a terrible place mentally and emotionally for most of last week. Blame it on the moon? My nearly-post-menopausal hormones? I don’t know. Whatever it was, I did a lovely full moon self-Reiki session on Saturday night right around the time the moon went full, and then yesterday I took the moon water I had set out earlier in the week and sprinkled some on the newly-planted vegetable seeds for the garden, sprinkled it on our house plants, and then returned the rest of it to the Earth at the base of the giant box elder tree behind the house where I spend a fair amount of time meditating and doing breathwork.
But anyhoo. Let’s get to this week’s Tarot reading. The cards I pulled this week are:
7 of Pentacles (reversed)
9 of Pentacles (reversed)
7 of Wands (reversed)
And here’s the rundown…
7 of Pentacles (reversed) This card is all about hard work paying off in a material sense. Do you see a return (profit) from your work? Are you bringing in sufficient income to cover your basic needs and then some? What I love about this card is the depiction of the 7 pentacles hanging from a tree – they are not necessarily the “low hanging fruit” that we used to talk about when I worked in digital marketing for a large publishing company. These are the “fruits of our labor” that come after putting in a significant amount of effort. But the reversed card means that there’s going to be a delay involved until we can taste the sweet results of our work. Which leads us to the…
9 of Pentacles (reversed) Yep. Another reversed card. And this one, the 9 of Pentacles, is about our sense of financial security and longevity. The tortoise here is a symbol of the slow and steady path to feeling secure and grounded in the material world. The wall behind him represents the way we have built a life for ourselves. And of course, because it’s reversed, we’re all feeling into that uncertainty right now. I could be wrong, but yeah, I’d expect another week of outrageous economic events in the U.S. (and around the world). And I know it’s hard to not take it personally, because we’re all vulnerable right now, but this might be the time to do some shadow work on abundance and security. I also see this reversed card as a sign that if you’ve been thinking about doing some anti-capitalist community building, this is the time to start taking action. Join a community garden. Set up a space where people can come together without the expectation of spending money. Do something to connect with your neighbors. Maybe even something as simple as bartering with your neighbors – we all have something to offer!
7 of Wands (reversed) And the icing on this cake of reversed cards this week is the 7 of Wands. Another yikes, because this one is asking us to look at the ways in which we self-sabotage. A few months ago, I applied to grad school when the opportunity came up. (I didn’t get in to my first choice, but that’s a whole different story.) At any rate, I was talking about the process to my dear friend and shamanic Reiki mentor/teacher, and she told me to write down a mantra and put it on sticky notes (my favorite things) and stick them everywhere – on my desk, next to my bed, on the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator… And the mantra I chose was, “I allow myself to succeed.” Like, oof. What are the ways in which we sabotage ourselves? In reality, there are a whole lot of us who are afraid to let ourselves succeed. And with some pretty good reasons – but what are the payoffs of letting ourselves stay stuck? Again, as the energy of the moon wanes this week, do some journaling or some reflection on how you’ve been self-sabotaging and why you do it. Are you afraid that people won’t like you? That you’ll be the target of jealousy and animosity? And if that’s what you’re afraid of, how can you help others succeed with your own success? One of my favorite things to do is donate to mutual aid networks or directly to other people in need every time I make a sale and have the means to do so. Think about what feels right for you to lift others as part of your plan for success.
Remember that having all reversed cards in a reading isn’t necessarily a bad thing. These times of challenge are also opportunities for growth and expansion beyond the current boundaries of our minds and hearts and souls. Also, remember that while Mercy retrograde is "officially" over, we're still in the shadow period for another couple of weeks, so delays aren't necessarily out of the realm of possibility.
